Van monitoring and automation
Monitoring integration
Victron’s Cerbo GX offers substantial monitoring of many aspects of the “house”-side of a van. The focus is electrical, but it can also monitor tank and temperature details, along with limited GPIO, and send all information to VRM—Victron’s remote monitoring solution.
That’s a lot to work with, but integration with HomeKit would enable a lot more automation.
- Signal K for data exchange between marine devices
- Homebridge to connect devices to HomeKit
- Signal K to Homebridge plugin
- Victron’s blog post about Signal K integration
Relatedly:
- Victron can track location with a USB GPS (here’s one)
- Victron offers support for Ruuvi tags (though there’s also this Homebridge plugin)
- VRM now supports widgets on iPhones, but that isn’t the same as integration with HomeKit
CCTV monitoring
The Homebridge Swann plugin, according to these notes can be more broadly applied to any RTSP-capable camera. It does not appear a local DVR is required (though this requires confirmation).
Reolink offers a blog post encouraging DIYers, though this issue is one among a few that suggest RTMP works better than RTSP.
Two cameras that appear worth looking at:
- 1080P with spotlight (WiFi with USB-powered)
- 5MP with infrared illuminator (PoE)
