Does AAA cover vans?
A Reddit comment complained that AAA policies have specific language excluding Sprinter vans. Here’s what I found:
AAA Oregon/Idaho’s terms and conditions:
Dual-wheel campers/motor homes are eligible for lockout, fuel delivery, and jump-start services only. Dual-wheel unloaded pickup trucks up to one ton are eligible for all services except tire service. Taxicabs, sprinter vans, box vans, and limousines are excluded from coverage.
AAA Washington’s terms and conditions:
In addition to vehicles eligible under AAA Classic, AAA Plus and AAA Premier, a AAA Plus RV or AAA Premier RV membership provides you with coverage for the following eligible vehicles: factory-built RVs, pickups with campers (including those with dual-wheels); Sprinter-style vans, vehicles with 1.5 or 2-ton load capacity, 1 or 2 axle trailers for motorcycles, snowmobiles, personal watercraft, golf, single car, utility, and select small rental trailers that meet specific outlined trailer guidelines. (NOTE: With AAA Classic, AAA Plus and AAA Premier Memberships, motorhomes and motorcycles are eligible for all services except towing, extrication/winching and tire service).
AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah, Arizona, and Mountain West terms and conditions have no specific mention of “sprinter,” however:
Premier Membership (Residents of California, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska):
In addition to the vehicles specified for AAA Classic and Plus Members, Premier Members whose primary residence is in California, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, or Alaska are also eligible for the following:
Recreational Vehicles (as defined above), motorcycles and scooters are eligible for winching/extrication services, and towing (1 tow up to 200 miles, and the remaining 3 tows up to 100 miles per incident).
So, some AAA terms exclude Sprinters, conversion vans, or RVs. But at least AAA NorCal has plans that specifically include Sprinters, conversion vans, and RVs.
Key takeaway: read the terms carefully, and if you’re in the AAA Northern California territory, be sure to get the AAA Premier membership.
